Bought the blood meal today and worked it in around the plants. I need sun and heat more than anything. This must be what it's like to grow gardens in Seattle. I trimmed the lower branches off of the tomato plants and thinned some lettuce. Beans have been replanted.

I know what you mean, I'd like to see where my garden would be now if I could actually get some warm days. Yesterday wasn't awful, but some of my plants really want some heat.
For whatever reason my Swiss Chard isn't coming up, so far that's the only thing in my garden I'll have to replant. I'm thinking it was all the intense rain we got after planting. The seeds probably got soft and rotted away.

I know I've been slacking, but I'll be off work for 9 days after this week. I'll have updated pics. I've been picking strawberries from the small hanging basket and Hungarian yellow wax peppers so far. I'm about to get out there and cut lettuce for tonight's salad. I can't wait for ripe tomatoes!

I've been slacking with pictures too. More radish harvests. We've got cups and cups and cups of peas. We have some cucumbers that are nearly ready and same with our golden zucchini. No ripe tomatoes yet either, but I have a lot of green ones. Our lettuces have all done really well except for the Swiss Chard. Oh, how could I forget? Green beans and wax beans have been ending up in the collection basket too.

I haven't slacked on taking pictures. I've slacked on posting them. I usually get on here when I have nothing to do. I.E. when I'm at work. I would kill for some work to do, but it's so dead here right now. It's given me some extra time for homework though. I guess that's a plus. I took a practice exam for algebra while listening to music at my desk yesterday.

I didn't get the layoff from work, but ended up with 5 days off after taking one vacation day. I managed to take a few pics. I have cut a bunch of lettuce. I've been giving it away, but still have too much. Tomatoes are doing well. The Trinidad Scorpion pepper dropped more buds, but I now have open flowers on it. The pickling cukes are starting up the trellis. The plan is for them to shade the lettuce so it will keep growing. Big Bertha sweet pepper. The dill and rest of the herbs are doing great. Been picking a few handfuls of strawberries. Onions are doing well. The shade garden is starting to take off. Everything back there is smaller than the raised bed. The pole beans are growing up the fence and just starting to flower.

Everything is growing so fast. Just since the pics post, the tomato plants are nearing 5 feet. I ate that first German Johnson mater. Best taste slicing mater I've found. Remembering how the plants got to 6 or so feet and then bending over growing down again last year, I'm going to be pounding tall stakes in soon and will be tying the vines to it. Pickling cukes are nearing the top of the trellis, eating a few more sweet peppers and have been picking more Hungarian yellow wax peppers than anything. They will be turned into pepper spray soon. My lettuce is full of lightning bugs during the day, but no damage. I know the Jap beetles will be on the beans very soon and cucumber beetles not far behind.

I picked a few sweet peppers and made stuffed peppers. I sliced up a cayan pepper I picked and mixed it with homegrown onion and the beef. They were great! So far I have picked German Johnson (my favorite slicing tomato), Mortgage Lifter, and Black Krim tomatoes. I like the unique flavor of the Black Krim. I'll get better pics of the next one and put them up. Pickling cukes are stating to fruit, I'll be pickling in a week. All hot peppers are producing, sweets as well. I want to turn the hot peppers into powder for bbq rub and other cooking. Trying to learn how to do this. Back garden tomatoes are behind the raised quite a bit. Hoping for a good late crop from them for bbq sauce.

Most everything is growing and producing well. My email must've been hacked. I check on my phone and it's disconnected, I had tons of outgoing messages that I didn't send that came back " Mailer Deamon failure" or something like that and just as many emails from yahoo. I'll just set up a new one so I can start getting pics from my phone to photobucket. Last weekend I picked some Big Bertha sweet peppers. I read they are elongated to around 7 inches, but these were larger than that. They turned into stuffed peppers and they were great. I have pics I put on fb and a friend of mine who just spent 18 days in 2 hospitals, had 5 procedures including a 9 and a half hour operation for brain aneurisms (sp?) has requested some stuffed peppers. I'll be making those for her soon. Some tomato plants are 6' tall, bending cages, and forcing me to tie them up etc. One of the larger ones was torn up pretty bad by a giant tomato worm. The worm is no longer with us....... I've been picking German Johnson and Black Krim maters, The German Johnson is still my favorite slicer, but those Black Krims have a good, unique flavor. Mortgage lifters and Brandywines are starting to ripen now. Tons of peppers! More cayans than I know what to do with, same with Hungarian yellow wax. Soon I'll have to buy a food dehydrator so I can start making pepper powder. That's my plan, at least. The Trinidad Scorpion is loaded with deadly hot peppers. All 3 varieties of sweet peppers have produced well. Cantaloupes and watermelons are behind still. Onions are doing well, and I start pickle processing tomorrow. The back garden is the most pathetic I've seen it this year. Slicing cukes that were bought twice have died both times. Same tomato plants as in the raised garden are not even half the size. They are actually turning yellow like it's September. Beans haven't started producing yet. Everything back there sucks this year. Same tomato problems at my Grandpa's. Busy day tomorrow, but hopefully I'll get some computer time, set up a new email account, and get pics posted.

I ate that first German Johnson mater. Best taste slicing mater I've found. Call me immature, but I read as far as "I ate that first German Johnson" and lost it. At work. Lol. Glad to hear your garden is doing so well! Ours is too. We've had so many zucchini that we've had to give a lot away. Same with cucumbers, we can't keep up with the pickling so we've given tons of those away too. Lettuce out our ears, beets and beans stockpiling.. it's all wonderful but it's also all at once. The peas don't last, because the kids devour them. Same with the cherry tomatoes. I've got peppers coming out like crazy too. Are your cayenne peppers turning red? I've got TONS of peppers, but they're still all skinny green fingers.

So busy............ I have a bunch of pics in my phone and I'll keep taking them. Maybe I'll post them all towards the end of season.
Update..... The 9 tomato plants in the good garden have given me more and the largest tomatoes I've grown yet. The back garden sucks, won't even talk about it. All of my plants grew to 5-6' tall before bending over and growing down to the ground, except one. The Mortgage lifter plant is still standing high at about 7'. I've picked the biggest German Johnson's (my favorite for raw sliced) I've grown with larger still growing. Been cutting cores out and freezing a ton of tomatoes. Those will be used for coming up with my own BBQ sauce recipe. Also used in salsa, chili, etc. Hot peppers galore! Cayans produce TONS of peppers. I've used a few in cooking/grilling. Hungarian yellow wax produced great also. The Trinidad Scorpion has peppers ripening. Took one to work and nobody would try eating it. Last year I gave a guy a ghost pepper and they remember how he looked....... The pickle trellis has been a huge success again this year. Most people I know either lost cuke plants they bought right off the bat or have by now. I'm now a believer that direct sow is the way to go with cukes. Cantaloupes in both gardens, but doing much better in the good garden. I have struggled with watermelons ever since I tried something other than sugar baby. I have lost some baby melons this year and have one growing, but pretty small. I may have to try a few things I've thought about next year. Cooper (the dog) has been picking quite a few beans.
