So I took my dad out steelhead fishing new years day on the river. This was his first time river fishing like this. I also need to state that I tow my little 12ft. with my Focus. Anyhow, we fish, went 2 for 4 and had a good day. We get back and a day later he suddenly wants to put a hitch on his Cobalt. Then starts talking about buying a boat like I have and pulling it with his car. Now it's not like boats are a new thing to my dad. He's got a 26' toon, and a 17' Sea Nymph completely rigged for trolling eyes w/ planers or steelies/salmon and downriggers on the big lakes. He finds a boat after driving all over the state for $550.00 A 12ft Starcraft with a 6hp Evinrude w trailer. Well him and I made a trip to Cabelas today and he purchased $560.00 worth of equipment to RIG this boat! Now he wants to take his boat and his car fishing. The only problem is he has to go through the motor, install seats, rod holders, work on the trailer, install a hitch on his car and wire it. I mention we can just take my boat and car but NOPE! He wants to take his boat and car. Jeez. What have I done???

The best he can. He is working 7 days right now. The thing is I'm going whether his boat is ready or not the Tuesday after next!

Steelhead piss me off! Hook them in the river on such light line and so many break off. Always did better pissing off the river eliteists by catching them trolling for salmon in the big lake and keeping them. ;D

I run 8 to 10 lb Fireline with an 8 lb. Flouro leader. Haven't had one snap my line yet, just throw the hook. In a boat, the chances of landing one increase 70%. If they make a run downstream, just lift the anchor and float with them. I started out bank fishing and it's great in the small rivers you can wade but as far as large rivers, boat is the only way to do it.
