I bought another 72 cell Jiffy starter kit and a couple of nights ago I started 18 Granex Yellow Hybrid onions, 12 Imperial 45 Cantaloupes, 18 Brandywine Tomatoes, 12 Hungarian Hot Yellow Wax Peppers, and 12 Delicious Tomatoes.
I'm up to 3 varieties of tomatoes started and will start my Super Sweet 100 Hybrid Cherry Tomatoes in the next week or so.
I still need to pick up my Gold Star Cantaloupe seeds from My folks freezer (seeds from last years melons I grew) I still think it's a little early to start my cucumbers. I've never even tasted a lemon cucumber, but hear a lot about them, so I'll be growing them, Marketmore 76 slicers and the pickling cukes.
Yesterday I transplanted a pumpkin to a 3 gallon bucket and 6 watermelons that I transplanted as two plants per bucket. I mixed peat moss 70% with 30% soil and tried a little experiment. I want to see if a few of the roomates rabbits pellets (manure) will burn these little plants or slowly breakdown to fertilize before I can get them in the ground. If it burns them, oh well, I have many more coming along. With 6 Better Boy plants in plastic party cups, 4 buckets of melon/pumpkin and a 72 cell tray, I'm running out of room already. I have the second 72 cell tray on the floor next to the reegister where it will stay until plants germinate, after that, I have no idea what I'm going to do? Hope it warms up real soon.

since mother Nature has decided I'm not going to get my new garden tilled up and ready early, I spent some time today transplanting from starter wrapped peat disks to cups, 5" Jiffy pots, and buckets. Thinned through my Brandywine seedlings and kept 10. They are awefully leggy (so are my delicious, but not my better boys) so I planted them in the party cups deep, all the way down so just the first 2 leaves are above the dirt. this will slow the plants growth for a couple weeks, but that's because the whole stem will be growing roots. Gonna be some strong rooted plants for sure. I put cantaloupe seedlings in the 5" Jiffy pots because they will have the most delicate roots when it comes to transplanting. I will just put the peat pot in the ground when it's time for them to go into the garden. I planted them with 2 plants per pot and then added a seed. I will cut the weakest one when they go in the garden. 3 pots of Imperial 45 cantaloupe and 1 pot of Gold star. My peppers are growing slowly due to temperature, but that's fine they will grow fast when it finally warms up and I like that so I won't have to transplant them until I have gotten rid of a few watermelon buckets and tomato cups. I need to get my "delicious" tomatoes into cups in the next few days. they are also very leggy so I will be burrying them deep too. Looks like I'll be keeping 15 plants. The super sweet hybrid cherry tomatoes will be started tomorrow night.
